Bar Botánica will be an Afro-Caribbean inspired craft cocktail bar, cafe, and social club in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood of Detroit. Our mission is to create a vibrant, inclusive social hub that honors the traditions of Afro-Caribbean, Latinx, indigenous, and other peoples of color, to become a flashpoint for redevelopment and interest in the Jefferson-Chalmers area, and to create jobs for Detroiters.
What Good Food Means to Us At Bar Botánica, we believe that great cocktails require fresh, high-quality ingredients and a commitment to craft—not mustaches, suspenders, or the pretense of many craft cocktail bars. We’ll create an inclusive environment for all patrons, and place a premium on sharing our knowledge of and passion for cocktails, wine, spirits, and more. An ever-evolving (but always concise) cocktail list will focus on shaken drinks built around rum and agave spirits (tequila and mezcal). Cocktails will take their cues from the classic libations of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, México, and the tropics, highlighting floral, herbal, and vegetal notes, as well as bright, vibrant, and balanced flavors. We will avoid processed sweeteners and artificial ingredients, and showcase botanicals and quality spirits. In so doing, we will reconnect guests to the healing art of the cocktail, the original application of which was to imbibe the medicinal properties of plants. In addition to cocktails, we will be serving a limited number of seasonal, plant-focused, pre-prepared, food items. Our food preparation will be bright and colorful, and we’ll use fresh, locally-sourced, organic, and artisanal ingredients. Natural wines by the glass, as well as a selection of bottled beers, will also be available. We are committed to employing a diverse staff of Detroiters, and view an engaged, fairly-compensated, and superbly-trained staff as key to our vision.
