FoodLab Detroit July Open House with Lester Gouvia: Join us for breakfast!
FoodLab's Open House is a great informational session for folks who want to learn more about FoodLab Detroit. Each Open House includes a overview of FoodLab Detroit, a presentation by a current FoodLab member businesses, and each session focuses on a different FoodLab Guiding principle.

At this month's Open House come out and hear a presentation from Lester Gouvia, founder of Norma G's. Lester will be speaking about how he went from showcasing his Caribbean fare at a FoodLab meeting 3 years ago, to operating a popular Caribbean food truck Norma G’s, to getting ready to settle down to open one of the most anticipated restaurants in Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood. Through it all, Lester has been insisted that he didn't have all the answers - so whether talking with city professionals, legal advisors, investors or seeking advice from the FoodLab staff, he has remained humble through the process of growing his business.

Lester says, "I decided to become a FoodLab member because it was an opportunity at first to network with other food entrepreneurs, but then it went from just networking to a place where I really began to learn, grow and create."

FoodLab Detroit has successfully worked to strengthen Detroit’s regional food system by supporting entreprenuers like Lester and by creating a new food economy that acknowledges the importance of justice, community representation, and sustainability. The organization is an example of the success which comes from applying a community-based approach to issues of food injustice.
